Question: I bought a used car from a Chrysler dealer that was supposed to have a V8 engine in it. Now I realize the car has a V6 in it! What can I do?

Hello Tony
Please let me start by saying what a great service you are doing for car buyers everywhere - I recently decided to buy a used car and if not for your excellent advice on the website - I'm certain I would have been completely taken advantage of.
So I recently visited my local 5 Star Chrysler dealership and purchased a used 2005 Chrysler 300 Touring. I had some difficulty at the dealership as the salesman repeatedly changed the negotiated price and tried to add more cost - I finally had to ask the GM for a new salesman after this guy started yelling and swearing at me.
I now have the car at home, but I noticed something this morning . . . I specifically requested a 300 Touring with a V8 engine and that is what is written on my purchase agreement / receipt, however when I opened the hood I noticed that it is actually a V6 engine!
I have not called the dealership yet as I would like some advice on what my options are - should I return the vehicle, or ask for a partial refund (how much), or what?
Any advice would be truly appreciated - Thanks for your time and please keep up the excellent work!
Sincerely,
Cindy G.
Answer:
Hi Cindy,
If indeed you have a sales contract that states your car has a V8 then contact the owner or the General Manager of the dealership and tell him or her what the problem is. Tell them you want what you paid for. If they are uncooperative then you may want to consult with an attorney to find out what your legal rights are in this situation.
As far as what to ask for - only you can make that determination. Another car in similar condition with a V8 or a refund would be the first things that come to my mind.
Good luck Cindy . . . and I wish you all the very best . . .
