Question: How can I get a title to a truck I bought three years ago from a private owner? He never gave me a title.

Hello Tony
I bought a truck from someone three years ago and cannot get him to give me a title.
I found out that he bought it from a junk yard about ten years ago and never retitled the vehicle. All we have is the bill of sale from him.
How can I get a title for this? It's been sitting in my yard for 3 years?
P.S. It would cost too much to take him to small claims court!
Thank you,
Stephanie R.
Answer:
Hi Stephanie,
Does the guy you bought the truck from even have the title? Maybe he never got the title from the junkyard where he bought it. Perhaps there is no title, or maybe he had it and lost it.
Three years is a long time!
Your best bet is to contact your local title agency or your state's title bureau and explain the situation to them. Hopefully they can help you obtain a replacement title since you do have a bill of sale proving you bought the truck.
If that doesn't work then I'd say getting legal advice is your only other choice.
All my very best...
