Question: Can a car be returned after purchasing it if I simply change my mind?
April 28, 2003
Hi Tony,
Your web site is fantastic!
Could you please tell me, is there anything to do if after purchasing a new car, you change your mind? Are cars returnable just for changing your mind? My daughter-in-law just purchased a new car (Denver) and sadly realized that she made a bad deal. She is paying too much for the car and a very high interest.
Thanks,
Beatriz
Answer:
Hi Beatriz,
Cars are not returnable just for changing your mind.
However, If the transaction is only a day or two old you
can appeal to the decency of the dealer - I mean the owner -
not the salesman.
I have seen them reverse deals before. They don't like to
do it, and if the loan papers have been filed with the bank and the title transferred you're going to be out of luck.
The bottom line is that a car dealer is under no obligation to let you out of a car deal if all the papers have been signed, the loan approved and you have taken delivery of the vehicle.
All the best,
Tony Iorio
