Question: Do I have to pay for mileage while financing is being arranged on a car I'm purchasing?
May 12, 2005
Hello Tony
I love your website and the articles you write.
Here's my question: You buy a new car, the dealer "talks you into" driving it home, then calls you back because they want to do the financing, and don't want you to use your own.
My daughter was told that if she got her own financing, she would have to pay mileage for the week that she's had the car. How much can they charge you for mileage in Colorado?
Thanks,
Tammy
Answer:
Hi Tammy,
Thank you for your kind words about my website.
Tammy, this is the most outrageous nonsense I've ever heard! They cannot charge you to pay mileage while you're arranging your own financing. This is a pathetic and unethical ploy so that you will let them arrange financing for you. This is just another disgusting example of a deceitful car dealership.
Now I don't know what kind of shady paperwork these jerks had
your daughter sign, but until financing is in place, loan papers are signed and money has actually changed hands a car sale is not complete.
First of all, if I were you I would take the car back to them and tell them to stick it! Then go find a legitimate and honest dealer who won't try to coerce you into doing something that is strictly for their benefit and totally against yours.
Do Not let the dealer arrange financing. It will take money out of your pocket or your daughter's pocket and put it in their own. If you haven't read it yet go to: The Most Closely Guarded Secret in the Car Business on my website so you can understand why the dealer's finance dept. is the most lucrative, profit center he has.
Arrange your own financing, preferably before you go to a dealer. Go to:
RoadLoans.
They will send you a RoadLoansCheck to
take with you when you go to buy a car. Then you just follow their simple guidelines, fill in the amount and you're done. If the dealer doesn't like it go to another dealer. I did this with my own daughter and it was very simple,
and it saved her a ton of money.
A dealer can not force you to finance through them. If this crooked dealer continues to give you a hard time tell them you are going to your state's Attorney General and you are going to report them to the Better Business Bureau; And do so if need be.
Don't let them get the upper hand. They're nothing but sleazy crooks and they care nothing about your daughter, or building a lasting business relationship with her. Don't do business with these kind of people.
Good Luck
