Question: What happens to the previous model year left over new cars once the new cars come out?
Dec. 7, 2003
I have a car question - what happens to new cars not sold? Example: On January 1st 2004, what happens to all the unsold 2003's?
Do they become used cars? I imagine if they're for sale - they're cheaper because they're out of date. I'd be interested in buying a year or two old car with zero miles on
it, get it a bit cheaper because it's a bit older?
Do you know anyone who sells them, or how I could get one?
Thanks,
E.M.
Answer:
Hi E.M.,
Once the new models come out - which is usually Sept. - Oct. - the dealers become very anxious to sell the left over, previous model year new cars still in stock.
Even though they are technically a year old they are still
considered new since they've never been titled. You can usually get a good price on these left over cars, and sometimes
the manufacturer offers additional price breaks on these vehicles.
The bottom line is that you can probably buy one of these
cars for a little less than you would have been able to several
months earlier, but keep in mind that you are buying a car that
is a year old as far as the model year goes so it will depreciate
in value quicker than a current model year vehicle.
Either way you will still be buying a new vehicle with a full factory warranty. All new car dealers have left-overs when the new models come out, and they are very anxious to sell them fast. So check around with your local dealers. I'm sure you will find plenty of them.
Take care,
