Question: The Finance Manager at the car dealership where I purchased my new Ford Fusion lied to me about the extended warranty and interest rate. Where can I go to file a complaint?
April 01, 2007
Hello Tony
I spent hours researching cars & prices. I made a mistake in purchasing my car (I bought it on March 22, 2007). I ended up with a 2007 Ford Fusion. New. I like the car but it wasn't what I wanted.
I was tricked into buying an extended warranty and I wasn't given the prices I was told. I will never, never, never ever buy a Ford again.
Now I know about Finance Managers. I didn't research that part of it. Hind-site is fore-site. What I want to know is this, is it to late to cancel the extended warranty?
I hate that they lied to me so badly. They told me that we would save 1/2 point on interest if we purchased this warranty. NO YOU DON'T. At least its with our credit union so its simple interest so the money can be refunded back into the loan. Which will be OK.
I would like to file some sort of complaint. IT PISS'S ME OFF THAT THEY LIED ABOUT IT. Sadder still is the fact that they don't even care.
Thanks for your time.
Sheila
Answer:
Hi Sheila,
First of all, you can cancel your extended warranty at any time. This has to be done through the dealer you bought it from - probably through the Finance Manager!
I've answered similar questions like this for other people, and you can read my answers by going to: Extended Auto Warranty Questions. You will be able to read what I've written regarding the warranty cancellation process.
Now I don't know each individual state's laws, but I believe it is illegal pretty much everywhere to coerce you into buying a warranty with the promise of a lower interest rate. It may even be a federal law.
If I were you I would first initiate the cancellation of the warranty. Then contact the General Manager or the owner of the dealership and express your dissatisfaction with how you were handled. Don't waste your time with the Sales Manager, Finance Manager or the Salesman. They don't want to hear it. All they care about is retaining their commissions.
You should also file a complaint with Ford by contacting them through the contact information in your owner's manual. You will also get a Customer Service Survey from Ford. Make sure you really blast the dealer in this survey, because the car dealers are judged by Ford based on their CSI (Customer Service Index) which is determined by the answers they receive in these surveys.
You may also want to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and with your state's Attorney General's office.
Let this car dealer know they cannot treat customers in this manner without consequence.
All my very best...
