Question: The car dealer is trying to put my boyfriend's name on the title when the car loan is in my name only. What can I do?
March 22, 2007
Hi Tony
I just bought a car and the car lot put the loan in my name soley and put the car's license and registration in mine and my boy friend - he didn't sign any papers - how can the loan be in mine and the ownership of the car be in both? What should I do about this?
Sincerely,
Angie
Answer:
Hi Angie,
Somebody at the car dealer screwed up big time! If your boyfriend's name isn't on the loan he can't be on the title or the registration. Unless your state has some weird law that I'm not aware of.
In any event tell the car lot to redo the paperwork and to get your boyfriend's name off the registration. It's your car, the loan is in your name so the boyfriend has nothing to do with the deal.
If the car dealer won't help you, go to your local title or license agency for help.
Good luck...
All my very best...
