Question: A car dealer gave me a price on an '04 Mustang that is $2,008 higher than they have the same car advertised for on the Internet. Can I force them to sell to me it at the advertised price?

Hi Tony
I had a question about prices and negotiating:
I went to this Ford Dealership and test drove a 2004 40th Anniversary Mustang. I liked it. I want it!
At the dealership, the guy (and the tag on the keys) says the car is $14,985. I didn't even try to negotiate or anything, because I don't know how to do that. But when I came home and looked at the page for the car on the dealer's website it says the car is $12,977 and the Kelly Blue Book value is $13,010!
Did he totally try to bump the cost on me? And can I just go in there and tell him to give it to me for the price on the website?
I've never bought a car off the lot before, so I'm not to sure about protocol with pricing and negotiations.
Thanks,
Nenne A.
Answer:
Hi Nenne,
Listen Nenne, you tell them to sell you the car for the advertised price. Print out the internet ad and take it with you. If they won't sell it at the advertised price tell the Sales Manager you are going to file a complaint with your state's Attorney General's office for false advertising.
Don't pay $14,985! If they keep giving you a hard time keep looking. There are plenty of dealers out there who would appreciate your business and there are plenty of Mustangs for sale.
Don't let these guys screw you. Just go somewhere else.
All my very best...
