Question: My Honda Odyssey was damaged by a detail shop. They want to have someone fix it on the side, but I want to take to somewhere else. What can I do?

Hi Tony
I'm quite frustrated about a matter with my vehicle. Hoping you can help me out. This weekend I took my 2005 Honda Odyssey to a car detail shop to get it cleaned. Very highly recommend place.
However, after they washed it the guy was pulling the van out of the garage with the passenger sliding door open. That's when I heard a loud bang. He had hit the door on a shell that was against a concrete wall and pinned the door causing damage.
Now yesterday I went out to get an estimate and since the van is so new I didn't want to get it painted and so on because I didn't want things to mismatch. So I took it to the Dent clinic and they can take the dents out but the scratched have to be painted. So the Dent clinic sent me to Guy Brother collision (Fix Auto in Mississauga). That guys said that it looks like the doors frame might be bent and if that is the case the door needs to be replaced. If the frame is fine then he can repair the door.
Now here is my issue; When I took it back to the guy who caused the damage he is saying he has a buddy that works for Honda who will come to his shop (not Honda) to remove the inside door panel to see if the frame is damaged. And what ever parts are needed he will order them from Honda as he gets a 25% discount on parts.
So what this guys is asking is to have his Honda buddy do any labor intensive work, remove this and that and put things back together, and any painting that needs to take place I can get it done from Fix Auto.
Only reason I want to go to Fix Auto is because he is offering a lifetime warranty from fading cracking etc. on his work.
I'm so frustrated that I may not be thinking clearly on this, what are you thought and ideas?

Answer:
Hi Paul,
Paul, if you're not comfortable letting the detail shop choose who repairs the vehicle tell them you insist on having someone you have confidence in do the job. It's your vehicle - get it fixed where you want to. Tell the shop they either pay the bill or you'll take them to court over it.
All my very best...
