Question: Will I be able to buy an extended auto warranty on an 2003 BMW 325 lemon buy-back that I recently purchased?
February 14, 2006
Hello Tony
I've been reading your site and it is great!
My husband purchased a 2003 BMW 325 convertible lemon buy-back about 5 months ago. The price was about $8,000 cheaper than other used cars available from other car dealers.
At that time, I did not know what a lemon buy-back was. We were told that the ignition coils were replaced and were the reason the manufacturer bought the vehicle back from the original owner.
So far, there have been no other problems with the car. Now, I want to purchase an extended auto warranty for the vehicle since the manufacturer's warranty is almost expired.
Do you think there will be any problem with a warranty company covering this car?
Thanks in advance for all your help!
Best Regards,
Denise
Answer:
Hi Denise,
Thank you for your kind words regarding my website.
I don't see any reason why there would be any problem getting a legitimate extended auto warranty company to cover your BMW.
The majority of lemon buy-backs do not have any major defects. In most cases the manufacturers buy these cars back from the original owners in order to keep the customers satisfied - more so than for any major defects the vehicle may have. Any car can have a minor mechanical problem such as yours did with the ignition coils.
In most of these cases there's never any problems after the repairs, but some people worry themselves so much about it that they are unable to enjoy the vehicle. In these cases the factory will buy the vehicle back in order to keep the customer happy rather than because the car has any lasting defects!
All my very best...
