Do You Have 72 Hours to Return a Vehicle?
Hi Tony,
I just signed on for a new Durango. How long do I have before I can get out of the deal?
Some states give you 72 hrs to back out. It's a used 2006 Durango. The day I signed the contract the brake light and ABS light came on. This was the second time I signed this contract. The first one got trashed, my payment was a lot more than we agree on. On this second contract they forgot to sign the purchase order and the contract itself. I kinda feel now since we signed or I did anyways I'm getting the run around from the dealer. I live in Washington state, I bought the Durango in Oregon.
Thank you,
Heber E.
Hi Herber, You can't bring a vehicle back once the deal is signed and done. There is no grace period. California is the only state I know of that has a 3 day return law, but you have to pay an extra fee up front to get it. If you're upset with the transaction contact the General Manager or the owner of the dealership and express your reservations. If you feel that they did something illegal contact the state Attorney General's office. Car Dealer Tries to Sneak $769 in Bogus Fees Into a Car Deal!
Tony,
Great website! Thanks for the info . . .
I wanted to know what standard costs I can expect to pay above the "negotiated price". I successfully negotiated the price of a new vehicle down to what I wanted to pay, and I expected to pay the taxes, title, & license fees, but I didn't anticipate that they tried to throw in $400 for a "Zaktek fee" and also a $369 "Documentary fee!"
I wanted to know - are these fees standard?
Also, they initially told me that our negotiated price included ALL of the fees (minus taxes, title, and license) so I was shocked to see those 2 extra costs added on. When I refused to pay those, the head manager came out and ripped up our contract!
I immediately walked out and was relieved that I didn't buy the car. They were lying to me since the minute I walked in there.
I'm beginning to think that the best thing to do is to negotiate a FINAL price which includes EVERYTHING - taxes, title, license, admin fees . . . EVERYTHING. Take it or leave it.
Thanks,
DC
Hi DC,Thanks for you kind words about my website. They are much appreciated. These extra fees this dealer was trying to stick you with are a total rip-off. It's good that you got out of there. The only legitimate fees are the price of the car, sales tax and title and licensing fees. Anytime you see a large fee like they were trying to stick you with you can be sure it's just extra profit for the dealer and totally bogus! You can negotiate an out-the-door price, but be careful; they can still stick you with phony fees and just bury them in the final price. Even if you negotiate the final out-the-door price, before you sign anything get the breakdown of the various charges that make up the final amount. You can't be too careful when dealing with this kind of stuff!Tony Ioriohttp://www.InsiderCarSecrets.comhttp://www.Car-Loan-Quotes.comhttp://www.Used-Car-Warranty.comhttp://www.GreatCreditCardDeals.com
