Car Dealer Trys to Steal Customer's Deposit!

Hi Tony,

I was looking around on your site, it is very helpful! I am having one issue . . . I've recently gone to a used car dealer, I was going to buy a car from them and I put some money down for a deposit, but they ended up selling the car to someone else.

I want to get my deposit back, but they are telling me they wont give it back now. In the beginning, he told me it was refundable. My money is now not holding a car or anything, because they sold it. I don't know what to do or if there is anything I can do. Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You.

Cassie

Hi Cassie,

Some of these car dealers never cease to amaze me.

Contact the owner of the dealership, (forget about the salesman or the Finance Manager), and tell him to give you your money back. Tell him you will file a complaint with your state's Attorney General's office and with the Better Business Bureau if he doesn't comply. Also tell him you will take him to court if necessary.

They can't keep your deposit if they sold the car it was holding!

If he still won't help you then you will have to follow through on your threats. Don't let these crooks get away with this crap.

All my very best to you . . .
