Title Problems After Paying Off Car Loan!

Hi Tony,

I have just paid off the loan I had in my car with Ford Motor Credit. They have sent me the certificate of title. But in the bottom it says this is a duplicate title.

Why is this? Where is the original? Why hasn't Ford sent the original to me?

I have no clue! You should contact Ford Motor Credit and ask them.

You can also contact the Office Manager or the Title Clerk at the dealership where you bought the vehicle. At the inception of the loan it's the car dealer's responsibility to transfer the title into your name, have a lien applied for Ford Motor Credit and then forward the title to Ford.

If you can't get a straight answer from them contact your local or state title agency for answers.

By the way, a duplicate title is a valid title, but it is puzzling why Ford didn't have the original title to send you.
