A Little "Car Insider" to "Car Insider" Talk!

Tony,

I work in the auto industry. I started as a car salesman and now I work as a sales trainer and consultant. I have struggled to break some of the bad habits that cause the negative stereo-types that you refer to through out your site.

I work as a consumer advocate in other industries as well, and I find the car business to be one of the toughest to break through. I'm glad to see that you are trying to educate the public. I hope that the work you do on your end and what I try to do on my end can create a transaction that is less painful for everyone involved.

With much respect,

Jonathan D., President, Plan "B" Consulting

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for the e-mail. I too would love to see the car business become more honest, ethical and customer friendly. Not that there aren't honest and ethical dealers out there, because there surely are, but it's the "nature of the beast" so to speak that will make it hard if not impossible to change the way car deals are made in any significant way.

As long as car dealers are willing to cut each other's throats on price I'm afraid things will never change. One dealer is always willing to beat another dealer's price. Then there's always the temptation to take advantage of customers on their trade-in allowance, and then you top that off with the potential for abuse by a Finance Manager to max out a deal in the Finance Office, and consumers just have no idea what they're up against.

That is, until they read my web site of course!

I hope as you do, that perhaps in time, we can educate enough people to make a difference, but very few people have any clue, and it's a real uphill battle!

Take care,

Tony Iorio
